1. UPS Releases Full 2024 GRI
Over the weekend, UPS published their 2024 General Rate Increase (GRI). An average increase of 5.9% had been previously announced, but this is the first look at specific rate increases.
Some of the published increases and changes include:
- Base rates for the contiguous U.S.
- Accessorials
- Air freight rates
- Air freight accessorials
- Updates to Delivery Area Surcharge-applicable ZIP Codes

2. UPS adjusting service to rural ZIP codes
Pushing for increased efficiency, UPS will slow down deliveries in rural ZIP codes across the country. Shipments to these ZIP codes will spend one extra day in transit. According to UPS, less than 1% of volume will be impacted by the change.
Delivery date guarantees will still apply, and urgent healthcare-related deliveries through UPS Premier won’t be impacted.
UPS is yet to announce a list of affected ZIP codes.

3. OnTrac Expands Network of Sort Centers
OnTrac has added to their transcontinental delivery network, opening three new sort centers in Las Vegas, NV, Reno, NV, and Nashville, TN, citing increased demand from clients.
OnTrac’s transcontinental delivery service was launched in July 2022, combining LaserShip and OnTrac’s East and West Coast network footprints. OnTrac’s network now reaches 31 states and 80% of the U.S. population.
